A Note from the Secretary’s Cabin

A big thank you to everyone who came along on Saturday 26 August to the fields at Tal y Garth, Glyn Ceiriog for the Ceiriog Valley Sheepdog Trials and Show.

After anxiously checking the weather forecast all week, we were relieved to end up with a good day bar a couple of showers, with some loyal stalwarts even turning up in the rain.

The Open Trials was a great competition won by Bryn Davies of Bryneglwys with his dog Tweed.  The Trials held on Friday 25 August were also a success, the Local won by Elgan Jones, Llanarmon with Bill and the Novice won by Jack Roberts, Bala with Robin.

There were a record number of entries in the sheep competition with some superb exhibits, the Interbreed Champion ultimately won by Glyn Jones and Sons, Cwm y Geifr, Llanarmon with their Welsh Mountain sheep.

The shearing is always popular, managed so well by our new Stewards Dan Owen and Dave Green.  The Hand Shearing was won by Elgar Hughes, Glyn Ceiriog (recent Hand Shearing Champion at the Royal Welsh Show), the Farmers Shearing by Arwyn Davies, Bryneglwys and the Contractors Shearing by Morgan Hughes, Llangollen.

There were some beautiful horses and ponies on the field with both equine and rider always looking their best.  The Supreme Show Champion was Morgan Nicholson, Glyn Ceiriog with Backseat Driver.

The Companion Dog Show always pulls in a crowd with adorable dogs bringing along their pet humans.  Best in Show was a German Short Haired Pointer called Pippa.  The dog agility was popular and a lot of fun was had by all.

Special thanks must go to all our amazing stewards and volunteers.  Every year they give their time and hard work and it’s only with this great camaraderie and team spirit that the show continues to be a success.

Also, a huge thank you to Paul Meakin, Official Show Photographer for being with us over both days and giving us all his fantastic pictures.

The committee particularly wish to thank our President Tegid Davies and his wife Sarah for bringing their warmth to the fields and adding to the spirit of the show, and to all our judges generously giving their time and experience to the competitions.

This is a vital part of our year as a community and I can’t thank you enough for giving your support be that financially, volunteering your time or coming along and being part of the crowd on the day making a great atmosphere.

Diolch yn fawr iawn.
